On 20 of March librarians from Sumy region
visited our Window on America center. We spoke about the library’s role as
provider of books, as a place where reading is important and where citizens can
gather formally and informally by providing free space for meetings and special
events. For many years, public libraries were as quiet places for study and
research with collection of books, magazines and knowledgeable librarians.
Today’s libraries are being designed with more space for people and technology
and less space for books. New technology transform libraries from what they are
into what they must be. Most of attention of our guests was attracted by Kindle
and iPads. In the future our libraries will be different and at least as
important as they are today.
