English - Speaking Club

There were four meetings of the English-Speaking Club in January. The following topics were discussed:

9.01 – Shopping

16.01 – Fruit

During the meeting, the members of the club discussed topic “Fruit”. At first, they listed all the known fruits. After that everyone had an opportunity to choose what local fruits are the favorite and why. A lot of time was spent on the discussion of exotic fruits and climate that can be suitable for them. In the end even took place the tasting of the fruits. It was real fun and joy for everyone who visited the meeting.

American Movie Night

American Movie Night

Sumy Window on America Center invites you to come on Sunday, January 17th, at 2.30p.m. and see a great movie in English.
The movie is “To Kill a Mocking Bird” in which starring such famous actors as Mary Badham, Phillip Alford,
John Megna, Ruth White and others.

The movie is about a white woman accuses a black man of rape. Though he is obviously innocent,
the outcome of his trial is such a foregone conclusion that no lawyer will step foward to defend
him - except Peck, the town's most distinguished citizen. His compassionate defense costs him many
friendships but earns him the respect and admiration of his two motherless children.

Discussion with the native speaker from the UK will take place after the watching.

English Club with Alec

On January, 12th there was the first meeting of English Speaking club "

English Club with Alec" in the new year. The topic of the meeting was "The events of the past year and the expectations for the new year". The participants had an exciting discussion about movies, especially the newest part of "Star Wars", music albums and also political events that occured in the world in 2015. People shared with each other. One of the most interesting subtopics was "Traveling". The participants told about their traveling plans, which varied from classical traveling dreams such London or Paris to unsual and extraordinary places like Himalayan mountains.  

Christmas and New Year are Coming

There were four meetings of the English-Speaking Club in December. The following topics were discussed:

5.12 – Chocolate

12.12 – Aliens

19.12 – Tattoos

26.12 – Christmas

The meeting was devoted to the discussion of the topic Christmas and New Year.

Our participants got a lot of information about Christmas and New Year around the world and knew many interesting facts about these holidays in different countries. Every guest told about celebration process in their family and shared funny stories about New Year and Christmas. People exchanged views on the topic. It was not only the discussion but a celebration as well.

We had a fun and share laughs!!!

U.S. VICE-CONSUL DISCUSSED STUDENT AND EXCHANGE PROGRAMS AND U.S. VISA APPLICATION PROCEDURES

On December 10, 2015 United States Vice-Consul Scott Milgroom visited Sumy Window on America. He  gave a presentation on U.S. exchange programs, student visas, and the visa application process.  Mr. Milhrum spoke about opportunities to participate in summer programs Summer Work Travel Program and Camp Counselors Program - youth camps in the USA for students to help to improve English language, learn the culture of the Americans, to establish contacts. After the presentation Milgroom Scott talked with the audience and answered all questions.

There were four meetings of the English-Speaking Club in November. The following topics were discussed:

21.11 – My favorite film 

The meeting was devoted to the discussion of the topic “My favorite film”. At first members of the Club talked about Ukrainian motion pictures and cinematograph traditions in our country. They remembered famous Ukrainian filmmakers and actors. After that they discussed world’s filmmaking, talked about their favorite motion pictures and actors. Of course there were many different views and different tastes. As usual the discussion went in a good and friendly manner.
