New Library Trends

   On 21 of February librarians from Sumy region came to visit Window on America center for the first time. They were welcomed by the center’s head talk about different types of technology in the library services. Electronic devices and the Internet have changed needs of our patrons. They come to access videos, e-mail, e-books, and research topics. During these hard economic times, some patrons simply cannot afford Internet access in their homes, and use the computers at the library to keep connected with family and friends. Also we spoke about our plans to have game days where children and adults can come and play games on the Xbox.

Libraries must change continuously

 On 7 of February Window on America center hosted an event for librarians from Sumy region. The main topic of our discussion was how to make the library a welcoming place with plenty of resources. We gave a short presentation on the latest technologies affecting our center today: Prezi presentation, iPads, e books, kindle, book trailers, blogs. We spoke about providing the best possible service, using social media platforms and presentation software ( Prezi) in our work. It was a wonderful time and we thank our guests for coming!

Ways to make life positive

Welcome to English-Speaking Club. Last month we had a variety of topics discussed:

15.01.  Today we discussed topic “Ways to make life positive”. We all want to be happy, to live a life that focuses more on the good than the bad. We choose to look for the positive in all things, rid our lives of negativity, choose to be a center of certainty in an uncertain world. Choose to create a climate of hope and enthusiasm in yourself and the people around us and of course to share happiness with others. We tried to answer - "What one thing could I do today that would make a positive difference in my life and the lives of those around me?"

Conversation Circle

In January there were three meetings of the Conversation Circle. The topic of the first one held on January 16^th was “How I spent holidays”. People told where they went and exchanged views on the topic. After that they played game “Occupation”. The next meeting on January 23^th was devoted to the discussing of the history of slavery in the USA and the life of Martin Luther King. During the 3^rd meeting on January 30th members of the circle discussed the so-called Post-crossing which is a hobby for many people. They also played game with the same name “Post-Crossing”.
